This air was collected by George Petrie in the Benedy Glen, which is just outside Dungiven, County Derry, in the first half of the 19th century. Petrie continued the work commenced by his mentor, Edward Bunting, at the Belfast Harp Festival of 1792 to preserve the ancient music of Ireland. Without their work travelling, collecting, and notating music from the musicians of the day, many old airs might have been lost to future generations. Ruadhrai was introduced to this air by his father, Seamus, from a recording by fiddle player, Aoibheann Devlin, from just outside Toome, Co Antrim. Both assiduously promote the ancient music of Ireland.

Class playing by everyone, it's hard to find trad music that's so well arranged without sounding 'too new.' I'd put this album up with any of the old classics.
Also, as a bouzouki player, it's nice to hear the instrument so high in the mix, especially when it's played so skillfully. zefferoni

Absolutely sensational - love the generally low-end tones and planxty-esque set up, but most of all the incredible energy of it! Wish more instrumental trad was like this, love the fact that it's recorded live too. Prangman
